Sarah Shinkle shared this brilliant piece of writing advice. It’s something I’ve tried to do in the past, but I never understood what I was trying to do until I read it.

  1. *nods* I’ve read that before, I think. There was something else I read once that basically said “Don’t tell me, show me.”

    It came from a piece by John Ross:

    “Cathy was a kind, hardworking woman whose solid character was grounded in deep religious beliefs.” Big deal. This tells me more about the author than it does about Cathy. Put Cathy in a difficult situation and let’s see how she copes. Then I’ll see what kind of person she is.
